Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of structures inside the body. Putra Medical Centre provides ultrasound imaging to support the assessment of internal medical concerns and pregnancy-related care.
Ultrasound services
The legacy PMC service includes general diagnostic imaging, pregnancy scanning and selected Doppler, 2D and 4D studies. The appropriate scan depends on the clinical reason for the examination, and not every scan type may be available at every session.
Before your scan
Preparation varies by examination. You may be asked to fast for several hours or attend with a comfortably full bladder. Follow the instructions provided when your appointment is arranged; contact PMC if the instructions are unclear.
During the examination
A trained healthcare professional applies ultrasound gel and moves a handheld probe over the area being examined. The procedure is generally non-invasive, although mild pressure may be needed to obtain useful images.
Results and follow-up
Ultrasound findings must be interpreted alongside your symptoms, examination and medical history. Ask when and how your report will be available and which doctor will discuss the results with you.
What to bring
Bring identification, your request form or referral letter, appointment details and relevant previous imaging or reports.
